arabesque: a posture in which the body is supported on one leg, with the other leg extended horizontally backward.
battement: a beating action of the extended or bent leg. there are two types of battements, grands battements and petits battements.
chaînés: an abbreviation of the term "tours chaînés déboulés": a series of rapid turns on the points or demi-pointes done in a straight line or in a circle.
fouetté: the movement may be a short whipped movement of the raised foot as it passes rapidly in front of or behind the supporting foot or the sharp whipping around of the body from one direction toanother.
jeté: throwing step. a jump from one foot to the other in which the working leg is brushed into the air and appears to have been thrown.
